Book update
I’m currently working through the fourth draft of my novel, and I’m hoping to have it finalized for submission by the end of June.
I’ve already been in contact with one new publisher and have sent a manuscript to them. But I already know it still needs significant polishing and rewriting. There is a lot more to do.
In any case, I’m glad to have had multiple drafts done. It has been a grind, and also one of the most fun things I’ve ever done. I’ve been carving it out most mornings since late August, first thing before work as the sun rises.
So what is the novel about?
It is called Fools at University.
Two simple ideas drive the story: American universities are important institutions where brilliant minds do important work and seek truth; and American universities are corrupted institutions full of radical dogmas and bad ideas.
At its core, it is a blend of philosophical reflection and political satire.
It tells the story of an inner-city kid named Apollo who cons his way into Halbridge University, a prestigious school that he thinks will give him an exciting intellectual life and a bright future. But one ridiculous, hilarious experience after another makes him disillusioned by the absurdity of the university. That is, until he meets a wise professor who changes everything.
I can’t wait for it to be out in the world.
