This week’s edition features some shocking survey findings about some people’s faith in “the second coming,” a history book recommendation, and an overview of the five most spoken languages in the world.

In a 2022 survey of 10,156 U.S. adults, 55% said that they agree Jesus will return to Earth someday (source).
A fun history book to read.
A History of The World in 6 Glasses by Tom Standage is a unique book that looks at history from the angle of drinks that had outsized impacts on society: beer, wine, spirits, coffee, tea, and cola. My favorite chapter was the coffee one; it was fascinating to read about its role during the enlightenment era.
Most people who speak English learned it as a second language.
Although English has the highest total number speakers in the world—approximately 1.5 billion—Chinese and Spanish have more native speakers, with 1.3 billion and 486 million, respectively. Meanwhile, English has 380 million native speakers, while Arabic (362 million) and Hindi (345 million) round out the top five (source).
