Happy Three Point Thursday.
This week’s edition features an anecdote from the corporate world, proof that, to use Longfellow’s wonderful phrase, “music is the universal language of mankind,” and an important exercise reminder.
The snakes are in the grass.
The other day at the office, I couldn’t help but overhear two coworkers trashing someone they usually spend significant time with throughout most in-office days. It gave me such a sour taste in my mouth. This is something that I’ve always found so jarring: people who so casually talk badly about someone who, when they are with them, are all buddy-buddy. There are few things in the world that make me more uncomfortable than this, and it is something I often observe in the corporate world. While I like my job, and the people I work with—for the most part—this is one reason why I’m more guarded and quiet there than I am by nature. It is a necessary evil that everyone uses the language of corporate speak at work for the sake of civility and professionalism, but it definitely makes it hard to know what people actually think about you and others. At the end of the day, I don’t mind it. It is what it is. But in any case, the broader lesson to draw is that the people who engage in this type of behavior are not people you should ever trust in any capacity. Or, as the boys back home used to say, the snakes are in the grass.
Works of art.
This playlist is so sacred to me that it almost feels wrong to share it. From Bach to Beethoven to music from Minecraft and The Lord of the Rings, this collection of songs is perfect for facilitating thought, focus, and a calm sense of happiness.
Be a bookworm and a gym rat, be a jacked nerd.
I find it convincing, the idea that sometimes we need reminders more than we need new lessons. The ultimate example of this is remembering how much better literally everything becomes after you do a hard workout. Especially an intense weightlifting session. Do not underestimate its power.
