Three Point Thursday | 3 Timeless Maxims
To curious minds,
Happy Three Point Thursday.
Here’s 3 quotes I’m thinking about:
“Everybody is a moon, and has a dark side which they never show to any one.”
“Beware that, when fighting monsters, you yourself do not become a monster. For when you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.”
—Friedrich Nietzsche
“If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?”
—Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Jedi and Sith. Red Sox and Yankees. Bitter coffee drinker and sugary coffee drinker. We are all capable of good and evil, just to differing extents. If only it were all so simple, Solzhenitsyn laments. Even the most objectively terrible people to ever live were likely convinced that their actions were good. That’s something to ponder.
Sincerely,
Jeff
