Nice reflection Jeff, as I was reading it reminded me of a book I'm reading written by Malcolm Gladwell called Outliers. Touches on the topic of people having different skills etc, but also mentions the fact that access to opportunities and at what time in history you are born is a big reason why some succeed, and others don't.
For example, Steve Jobs was able to invest so much time into mastering his craft because his university had 24-hour access to computers and he spent so much time in there.
I think you'd like the book if you haven't read it yet.
