advise is like getting a pair of pants. There's a ton out there, you have to try some on, see what fits best for you.
My favorite way to give advice is to tell stories of my own flaming failures. It's hard for anyone to take offense with confessions of your own foolishness—and sometimes they shoplift the advice you've left sitting unattended on the counter.
