The number three is a big theme—I share my love of shooting threes on the court, publishing three types of articles, and speaking three languages (four if you count Worcester)—so why not celebrate?
I appreciate you so much. Thank you for subscribing, thank you for reading, thank you for sharing. I hope you’ve found the content valuable.
Some months back I posted a video about a business card prototype I made. The card reads: “a blog and online community for the curious & ambitious, and those in pursuit of health, wealth, and knowledge.”
The word curious in particular is sacred to me. Writer Sahil Bloom describes his blog as “following my curiosity and sharing what I learn along the way.” Same here.
But let’s get more specific. What am I curious about? Where do I direct my curiosity for the enrichment of my life?
What I’m Curious About:
Philosophy (be careful)
Learning languages (English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese sort of, and hopefully more)
History
Psychology
Fitness (weight-lifting, sports, martial arts)
Neuroscience
Evolution
Religions of the world (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Greek & Egyptian myths etc.)
Technological progress and its implications (AI seems like maybe it’s possibly a big deal potentially perhaps?)
Wealth creation through building, selling, and investing
Sharpening communication skills and public speaking ability
How Bill Burr and Tim Dillon are able to cause me abdominal pain through their comedy
How to deepen friendships where we push each other to improve in every way, and never talk bad about one another behind one’s back, and genuinely root for each other in every way
How can I get closer to the truth? (the ultimate question)
How do we have consciousness? (tough one)
When will the Celtics win another championship?
How can I become a trophy husband?
Where are the aliens?
The poet Rumi once wrote that “the art of knowing is knowing what to ignore.” We only have so much energy and attention. It’s tragic to waste it. So what are things not to pay attention to, for the protection of one’s character, mind, and soul?
What I’m Not Curious About:
The ideas of people with “newspaper brains, television souls, and high school ideas”2
What anyone who tries to guilt me for not drinking with them says I ‘should’ do
What anyone who has a lifestyle I wouldn’t want says I ‘should’ do
Fantasy sports (I don’t have the bandwidth)
Fathoming the hypocrisy of people who don’t have friends of different cultures or ethnicities pronouncing how their “passionate about social equality” or “equity” or some other virtue signaling garbage, instead of just actually connecting with different cultures or ethnicities, by traveling, by playing sports, by learning languages, or doing literally anything that isn’t just posting some BS Instagram story and joining some mad crowd with ugly ill-thought out signs while screaming hysterically in an attempt to appear moral
What someone who blows vape smoke in your face in a super obnoxious way—but somehow doesn’t notice—has to say, about anything
The Netflix Top 10 in the U.S. (usually brain poison)
Specific advice that tells you what to do instead of what to avoid
Comprehending the idiocy of people who rent sports cars to flex on IG while wearing ugly “luxury” clothes in a sad attempt to look wealthy and high status
Grasping how screwed up the minds are of people who will spend the rest of their lives doing something they hate while reminiscing on what they define as “the glory days”—playing drinking games at a darty in college while wearing a jersey (they didn’t talk to any girls at the darty)
Understanding why privileged kids from wealthy backgrounds start selling weed and change their voice to sound like NBA Youngboy
Tik Tok trends
Poorly-articulated stories about your “bad luck” in gambling and how you got “screwed” by the casino or some pro sports player that you bet on (broooo nooo wayyyyy that was a lockkkkk mannnn)
How get to new levels in video games (new levels in real life is more fun)
The opinions of miserable and cynical pieces of trash who never take action or bet on themselves in any way, only sit on their gross couch and criticize people who do, because they think this makes them smart, that this shows that they’re mature and intelligent, but in reality they’re idiot cowards who, deep down, are too scared to ever take a chance on themselves, so they project their fear and lack of self-belief on others
If this resonates with you, if these two lists roughly describe things you’re curious and not curious about, then you’re in the right place.
I view this writing online as an attractive force. To attract luck, to attract like-minded humans.
I know there’s people in this world using this mystical communication web we call the internet who are as interested in the things I’m interested in. And who are as motivated to reject the degenerate lifestyle, the hedonistic habits, the close-minded thinking, and the cynical attitudes that are so prevalent in our culture. Who are as driven to embrace their natural abilities, uniqueness, and obsessions to learn as much as possible and pursue excellence. If you’re reading this, that likely applies to you.
And I trust more like you will come. If I keep shooting shots into the void of the internet, building the brand and this community, the right people will continue to arrive, Field of Dreams style.
Thanks again. We haven’t even begun the beginning of just getting started.
La vita è bella,3
Jeff
Special thanks to, which I don’t hesitate to admit, my 11 favorite subscribers of the 302 total, the special members of Three Pointers Premium. You know who you are. You’re the coolest.
Full Charles Bukowski quote: “I see men assassinated around me every day. I walk through rooms of the dead, streets of the dead, cities of the dead; men without eyes, men without voices; men with manufactured feelings and standard reactions; men with newspaper brains, television souls and high school ideas.”
Life is beautiful.
